September 9 is Kiku no Sekku,which used to be called gChoyo no Sekkuh.
On this day,people drank sake with chrysanthemum petals,called kiku-zake,
on a hill. They went to the mountains and picked chestnuts,cooked them
with rice,and ate the kuri-gohan. It has been said from long ago that
kiku-zake and kuri-gohan give long life.
